Google have recently introduced two new features to their search results.
1. An extra (4th) paid result
2. Rich Answers (the dictionary-like stuff - see below)
The effect of these changes is the results returned on a standard laptop often have no organic search results 'above the fold' (on the first reveal of the page) whatsoever.
For a 'search engine' that is pretty bad, and suggests to me a move away from Google's original public image - that it was in favour of the consumer - to a much more (even more) naked commercialism.
As they famously said at IPO: Don't be evil (we'll do the evil-ing for you).
