Today I'm sharing 10 steps to get your personal Twitter profile up to scratch so that you can start using it to connect with other professionals.
The steps in the Slideshare below are just the tip of the iceberg of what you can do on Twitter, but they're a great place to start. Once you feel more comfortable perhaps you could challenge yourself by trying these more advanced moves:
Launch a poll
When creating a tweet, you can also add a poll - this can be a great way to engage your followers, or run an informal survey. Simply click the poll symbol and fill the answers out as with the example below. You can also choose how long you want it to run for.
When you're using Twitter on your phone, you have the option of going live using Periscope. This is particularly worth doing if you are at an event, or want to give people a glimpse into the lighter side of your professional life.
Join in a Twitter chat
Twitter chats that are relevant to your industry are a great way for you to get yourself noticed and meet other people interested in the same things. Think of it as networking from the comfort of your sofa. Twitter chats are advertised in advance, and generally follow clear rules such as:
- Answer Question 1 by beginning your tweet with "A1" (aka Answer 1)
- Include the Twitter chat's hashtag in each of your tweets for ease of finding
- Don't use it to sell your product/business
- GIF usage is strongly encouraged in your answers :-)
