5 Quick Tips To Start The Year Successfully

Now, the idea of listing these tips is to offer something slightly different from the classic advice that is normally given out at the start of a new year with cliched resolutions and grandiose statements of intent that often only stick for those with unnatural will power.  I mean let's face it, dry January soon went out the window for a lot of us as soon as the word 'lockdown' was mentioned.  At passle we are actually in the early throws of carrying out a one-month wellness challenge where we can all choose exactly what we want to do and it can be as loose or focused as we like (1 run a week, read a book, learn an instrument, get more sleep etc).  It is all a bit of fun and a nice way to add some focus and perspective.  Anyway, here are my random tips that may or may not help:

Tip Number 1: Drink more water.  A very simple one that is very realistic and doable for everyone!  There are some great receptacles out there that allow you to keep on top of how much you have, and should, be drinking and the health benefits range from helping weight loss, digestive benefits, aiding brain function, physical performance. The list is endless.

Tip Number 2: Consider a day of digital detox.  Many of us, including children who are now being homeschooled, are subject to an unhealthy amount of screen time across multiple devices during the course of the week.  Why not turn all devices off on a Saturday or disable all of your Insta, Facebook, BBC alerts for the afternoon.  No-one can do anything anyway and so there should be no FOMO.

Tip Number 3: Mix up the communication.  Why not go old school and phone someone.  Most people I speak with are suffering from serious video fatigue and it is quite refreshing to actually speak with someone whilst trying to guess what their facial expression currently is.

Tip Number 4: Review of the week.  We do this every week at Passle and it brings a sense of accomplishment but also helps sign off and differentiate the working week from the weekend.  This can also be done from a personal perspective with friends and family.  What have you been most proud of this week?  What made you laugh this week?  What do you want to achieve next week?  This works great with the kids!

Tip number 5:  Give it a go.  There are some very inspirational stories doing the rounds in lockdown and you could argue that there has never been a better time in the strange landscape that we find ourselves in, to try new things.  My youngest often says 'I don't like that ' when referring to food that she has never put in her mouth and we have taken big strides with her now willing to at least try things.  It nearly always confirms 100% that she doesn't like said food but it is the giving it a go lesson that she is learning!

I hope these help....I am off to down a yard of water, teach myself how to play the harp and call my long lost cousin on the dog and bone.
